A woman was seen crying on the ledge outside the window of an eighth-floor HDB flat in Bukit Batok on Sunday morning (Mar 27).

Alarmed neighbours called the authorities for help after the woman had stood outside the flat for around an hour.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) sent a team of officers to Block 265 Bukit Batok East Avenue 4.

An inflatable life safety pack was set up on the ground just in case the woman, a 27-year-old domestic helper from Indonesia, decided to jump.

A short video of the incident was posted on the Singapore Incidents Facebook page on Mar 28, showing the life pack and a pair of SCDF officers from inside a flat.

Some SCDF officers spoke to her in the hopes of persuading her to come inside, while rescuers from the Disaster and Rescue Team were on standby should anything drastic happen.

The area was also cordoned off by SCDF.

Around 30 onlookers gathered on the ground, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Fortunately, nothing untoward occurred, and no one was injured in the incident.

After speaking to the woman for around two hours, rescue officers carried her inside the flat.

The woman was then arrested under the Mental Health Act.

AsiaOne reported that an alert was sent to the police at around 4 o’clock on Sunday morning. Assistance was requested at Bukit Batok East Avenue.

By 10:00 am, the cordons were removed.
