Traffic Police field day: officers join Deepavali motorcycle rounding to do their duty

Singapore — While more than 50 motorcyclists were enjoying their Deepavali rounding along Serangoon Road, the Traffic Police (TP) were reported having had a field day during their spot checks.

A three-minute video was uploaded by ROADs.sg on Thursday (Nov 4) with the first half showing the motorcyclists celebrating the festival of lights along Little India.

The video initially uploaded on TikTok, showed the motorcycles passing under lighted arches and public cheers.

After the clip, the page attached another footage taken from a motorcycle.

The rider was heard advising a woman pillion rider to capture the moment on camera as they passed through rows of motorcyclists along Serangoon Road on Nov 3, the eve of the festival.

The footage then changes to parked TP motorcycles conducting their checks.

“LTA (Land Transport Authority) and TP officers decided to join in the rounding to do their duty,” noted ROADS.sg, calling it a “TP field day.”

The man recording the scene focused the camera on the motorcycle number plates indicating they belonged to the TP.

With over 71,000 views and 220 comments, members from the online community shared mixed responses to the incident.

“Awesome! But I wonder if there was a reason to this gathering? We miss such small ‘fun,’” noted Facebook user Jacq HC.

Meanwhile, others highlighted that TP should also inspect a gathering of cyclists.

“When cyclists gather in more than 20 – 30 on the road, how come no LTA and TP go spot check them?” asked Facebook user Kim Huat.

“This one nothing wrong if they were to be caught for something then our SG traffic police there,” a netizen noted.

He mentioned two places, “Tanah Merah Coast Road on Saturday and Sunday same also many cyclist and Lim Chu Kang Neo Tiew Road all also many big groups of cyclists. Please go and catch all of them also,” he added.

“Motorcycle with COE, road tax with insurance! Bicycle none of the above please do something about it, thank you very much.”

Facebook user Pat Diver highlighted similar sentiments and wrote, “So fast TP know and reach location but big groups of cyclists TP don’t know or cannot reach location in time to catch. Funny!”
