Singapore — Speaking on the workplace harassment allegations against Night Owl Cinematics (NOC) co-founder Sylvia Chan, a target of such claims, Samantha Tan has shared her last comment on the saga.
It all started earlier this month when a then anonymous, a now-defunct Instagram page named @sgcickenrice began sharing allegations against Ms Chan through screenshots and audio clips.
The 33-year-old Singaporean YouTuber was heard and seen hurling expletives on her employees, one being their talent named Samantha.
Ms Chan reportedly called Ms Tan “f*cking dumb” and planned an “exit strategy” for her.
Since then, multiple statements from Ms Chan, NOC, Ms Tan, sgcickenrice, and influencers like Xiaxue and Preetipls circulated on social media.
On Saturday (Oct 30), Ms Tan took to Instagram to give her last address on the saga.
Her lengthy “closure” post included details that she has resigned from NOC on Oct 3 and that she has already submitted her case of alleged workplace harassment and delayed payments to the Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP).
She also highlighted that she was not affiliated with @sgcickenrice Instagram page and never released screenshots.
“If I had a huge part to play, it is because the public dove in and felt sorry that I was called a f**kface,” said Ms Tan.
“Thereafter, it was when I refuted Sylvia’s statement, which has not been addressed when my name was mentioned in Xiaxue’s interview with Sylvia and Xiaxue’s first TikTok video where I was insinuated to have something to do with sgcickenrice just because I was close with Nicole who is friends with Brandon,” she explained.
Nicole Liel is a former NOC talent who is friends with Brandon, also an influencer who goes by the handle @baerendang.
Brandon revealed on social media on Friday (Oct 29) that he was the sole admin behind @sgcickenrice after being called out by Xiaxue in a TikTok video.
He released an apology for his actions and promised to take full responsibility for the actions of the page.
Ms Tan also answered frequently asked questions such as her continued affiliation with NOC amid the allegations of a toxic work environment.
“I actually resigned on Oct 3 but because of three other reasons and am finally having my exit interview done on Nov 1,” she said.
It was reported that the Ministry of Manpower is looking into the claims, while TAFEP is in touch with NOC on the issue.
Ms Tan touched on the dinner she had with Ms Chan and co-founder Ryan Tan, which was brought up during the Xiaxue interview.
She explained that the dinner was Mr Tan’s idea to introduce her to Ms Chan in hopes of them having a “great working relationship together.”
However, they never really hung out together after the dinner but kept in touch through WhatsApp, Ms Tan added.
“I’m fully aware of the impact of social media and how it can magnify things so greatly,” she wrote.
“I had my fair share of fun with NOC, even though I really wish there were more comedy skits to be a part.”
“But moving forward, I’d like to relish the fact that I’m engaged, am healthy, have wonderful friends and family, have an extremely supportive workplace and lastly, that I am going to have a role in Jack Neo’s movie,” said Ms Tan. /TISG
