Singapore – In a 10-page statement peppered with screenshots and WhatsApp exchanges, Ryan Tan, co-founder of Night Owl Cinematics (NOC) sought to absolve himself of all accusations made against him in the social media slugfest involving his ex-wife and co-owner of NOC, Sylvia Chan.
He starts off by denying involvement in any way with @sgcickenrice or endthesilencee.blogspot.com. He says: “Throughout, I have refused to disclose any personal communications; particularly, those that I had exchanged with Sylvia. But I am heartbroken that I have not been extended the same courtesy”.
“Many lies were peddled during the interview, but I will continue not to discuss our personal issues. I respect our time together too much to do that. I will, however, address certain allegations of wrongdoing that have been made against me.”
During the nearly two-hour interview with blogger Xiaxue, Sylvia had claimed that Ryan incorporated Reno King as his own company in April 2021, behind her back, and that although it used NOC’s resources, all its profits went to Reno King.
Sylvia mentioned that she had a huge quarrel with him over this, felt that there was no trust. She said that he initially worked out a deal for Sylvia to own something, but then she found out that the account manager was passing jobs to him. She said she did not agree to the move, and wanted Reno King to be a subsidiary of NOC.
Responding to this, Ryan said: “I did not set up Reno King without Sylvia’s knowledge and I did not misuse NOC’s funds for Reno King. Sylvia knew about my intentions to set up Reno King at least as early as 29 April 2021 and had
in fact sent messages asking me to “quickly” incorporate the company and to “close the case”, i.e., to set a clear boundary between Reno King and NOC. Reno King also has its own payroll and set-up.”
Sharing a Google Document to which he said Sylvia had made revisions, he said: “On 8 May 2021, Sylvia and I agreed that 20% of Reno King’s profits will be paid to her or NOC. This was for the use of NOC’s YouTube channel as a platform and as an admin fee. On NOC’s part, it would provide ‘administrative support’ to Reno King. On the back-end, we agreed that I would set up a new bank account for Reno King and that the revenue that had been made through Reno King projects (but that had been paid to NOC) would be transferred to that account. Reno King would also pay the salaries due to Isabelle and Bryant for April as they had worked on Reno King projects during that month.”
There is one notable omission in his statement. It does not address allegations of his infidelity while he was still married.
He did say that he was tired and that he just wanted a clean break, to be allowed to continue making videos and to be fairly compensated, and he would leave the rest to the authorities and to his lawyers.
“I just hope that one day Sylvia reveals what she offered to pay me in exchange for all my shares in NOC and 2 other NOC-related entities and what she proposed for Reno King”, he wrote.
