Malaysian actor Azri Iskandar now fully vaccinated despite family members’ stand

Kuala Lumpur ― Azri Iskandar had got himself fully vaccinated even though his wife actress Ellie Suriaty and her family members have made a stand to refuse the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to Ellie, 51, her husband had gone behind her back to take the vaccine since it was a requirement for those who want to continue working in the creative industry.

“Since he’s the head of the family and the breadwinner, there’s no reason for me to pick a quarrel with him over that,” she said in a news report today.

The actress however insisted their family were not anti-vaxxers, reported New Straits Times. 

“Our main concern is that the vaccine for Covid-19 is still under clinical trial. So we worry about the safety and side effects to the body,” said the artiste and film director who opted for “alternative” ways to keep healthy.

Last month, Azri and Ellie’s children Azrell Omar, 17, and Nur Azreen Omar, 12, lodged a police report to stress their right to refuse the government’s vaccination on students.

Born in 1968, Azri Iskandar is a Malaysian actor. He has worked in the Malaysian film industry since the 1990s. Born Feb 20, 1970, Ellie Suriaty Omar is a female actor and director in Malaysia.

She once won the Best Supporting Actress category at the 16th Malaysian Film Festival through the film Soalnya Siapa?. In 2016, Ellie was appointed as the instructor of Akademi Fantasia 2016 (AF2016) and took on the responsibility as a Performing Arts Teacher.

She became famous after directing the play “Antara” with Erma Fatima, although she withdrew a few days before its staging. The play was staged from 26 to 28 February 2010 at the Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur.

Ellie modified the Antara text because it was said to be “deviated” from the Islamic faith. Regarding the matter, Erma Fatima stated that the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) had checked the script. /TISG
