Bedok man wields knife, then refuses to open door to police after allegedly getting upset over loud home renovations

Singapore — On Tuesday (Sept 21), a man was allegedly seen at Block 747C Bedok Reservoir Crescent wielding a knife in a threatening manner outside his neighbour’s door.

The police said they received an alert at around 1:15 pm.

However, when the authorities arrived, the man holed himself up in his own unit and refused to open the door to the police who had come to investigate the matter.

Officers from the Crisis Negotiation Unit and the Special Operations Command (SOC) were then called in to assist at the scene, with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) saying it received an alert shortly before 4 pm.

The SCDF then also had rescuers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) on standby, as well as two safety life air packs, just in case it was needed.

One resident, who identified himself as Minifigbin on the crowdsourced news site STOMP, said that after 3 pm was when he saw officers in his building.

“I saw them with shields and rifles ready to move in. Eventually and thankfully, the man was apprehended without force.”

However, the Stomper admitted to being frightened at the incident.

”Working from home is so scary,” Minifigbin told STOMP.

According to this report on the incident, the man who wielded the knife was upset because of the loud renovation works ongoing in one of the units in the building, which a neighbour had hired a contractor to carry out.

Fortunately, the man who holed himself up in his unit is assisting with police investigations. /TISG
