Fined $50 for parking after 10.30 p.m. That was what happened to a West Coast GRC resident living at Telok Blangah Towers on two occasions when he parked his car at the Housing Development Board’s multi-storey cark park opposite his block after 10:30 p.m.
The resident, identified as Mr Liew, was unaware that he had to apply for a seasonal parking pass under the purview of Wilson Parking or be fined for “illegal parking”.
It seems like the car park operator is out to make a mountain out of a molehill by slapping residents with fines for overnight parking, guest parking and dropping off / picking up passengers, which it deems as ‘illegal’.
Liew’s wife, Jackie, who wrote in to The Independent, told us that neighbours, relatives and friends who parked their vehicles at the multi-storey car park after 10.30 p.m. were also fined. She said that Wilson Parking failed to notify residents of the sudden changes.
In her letter to us, Jackie also expressed her disappointment with the car park operator, saying that Wilson Parking was not being fair to the residents by implementing a ‘no guest parking’ rule in a car park that is not fully occupied except during public holidays.
“What we didn’t like was that they [Wilson Parking] just blanket guest parking without informing us and start issuing summonses. They just want to catch our relatives and friends off-guard so they can profit from their fines – that’s something we take issue with.”
This issue has since been escalated to both West Coast Town Council and HDB, with the former pushing the buck to HDB.
While Wilson Parking is still bent on issuing summonses, the Liews are bent on taking action by complaining to their Member of Parliament.
