On Malaysia Day, Mahathir is still struggling with Pakatan’s breakup rumours

Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad called for unity in the face of racial division in Malaysia on the occasion of the Malaysia Day, which is the Sept 16th celebration of Sabah and Sarawak joining Malaya to form the Malaysian Federation.

Dr Mahathir recited a poem about unity, which says “let us break the walls that divide us.”

“Let us united regardless of skin colour or beliefs because we are Anak Bangsa Malaysia,” he said.

But the local media did not question the PM on rumours that one of his cabinet ministers will quit the party of PM-to-be-Anwar Ibrahim to join his party.

Queried by the media, Dr Mahathir brushed aside speculation the Justice Party deputy president mired in a. gay-sex-video scandal is making plans to jump to the Bersatu, which is the party headed by Dr M.

“He has not, he has not made any application (to join Bersatu).

“If he makes an application, then we will consider it,” said Dr M.

Azmin, who holds a high position in the cabinet as Minister of Economic Affairs and is said to be very influential with extensive powers, is facing accusations he is involved in a gay-sex video scandal.

The videos released by an unknown party rocked the Pakatan Harapan coalition and ruined the relationship between Anwar —who is the President of the party— and Azmin.

Anwar Ibrahim also called for unity among Malaysians in a message distributed yesterday.

Anwar in a Facebook post said Malaysia Day should be a day where Malaysians appreciate the strength of the country’s diversity.

“At a time where we are under siege by racism and suspicion, let us celebrate this day by appreciating the meaning of our diversity, inclusivity and harmony which we have enjoyed all this while.

“A better future is one that does not exclude or sideline anyone. Happy Malaysia Day,” he said.
