Ever dream of visiting Phuket’s wide sandy beaches, climbing China’s Great Wall, or getting lost in Tokyo’s streets? According to a recent study, these destinations are among the top choices in travellers’ bucket lists.

Hoppa.com, an airport bus company, conducted a study to reveal the world’s most popular bucket list destinations for 2019. The study covered cities and its go-to attractions and festivities. The survey was conducted among travelers from Europe, Australia, Asia, and North America.

Phuket, Thailand claimed the top spot in the 10 Asian Cities and the second place in the world list. More than half of the respondents listed Phuket in their bucket lists. Sydney, Australia is apparently the most popular destination on travellers’ bucket lists.

The study also found that Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is the most popular bucket list attraction worldwide, perhaps because travellers fear it might disappear soon and want to be able to experience it before it’s gone for good. The Great Wall of China comes second worldwide. Other attractions in Asian cities that are ranked high on the list include Japan’s Mount Fuji, Beijing’s Forbidden City, India’s Taj Mahal, as well as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower.

Hong Kong, home to Victoria Peak and Southeast Asia’s Disneyland, outranked Singapore in the top bucket list destinations. Neither Singapore’s iconic Merlion nor did Marina Bay make it to the top 10 attractions. However, the Lunar New Year Celebration in Singapore is one of the top bucket list events in Asia, outranking China’s Great Wall Marathon and the Winterlight Festival in Japan.
