Singapore – A 14-year-old suffered a cut on her cheek after playing at Jewel Changi Airport’s Canopy Park – the second incident in five days for the newly opened attraction.
The teenager’s aunt, Ms Susan Goh, 45, shared her experience on Facebook.
Ms Goh noted that her niece got the cut while navigating through the Mirror Maze, an attraction at the Canopy Park located at the topmost level of Jewel Changi Airport.
According to Ms Goh, her niece was playing at the attraction on June 19 (Wednesday) with five other children. Her niece was unaware of her cut until one of her playmates pointed out that she was bleeding, reported The Straits Times.
She did not know which part of the Mirror Maze posed a risk to safety.
Initially, the teen wanted to clean her wound with tissue but her mother, seeing that it was deep and needed professional attention, stopped her.
The attraction manager came to assist, wrote Ms Goh. “The remedy procedure needs improvement,” she added.
The attraction ranger on duty brought the teenager to a clinic in Terminal 3 for medical assistance and was referred to a hospital for treatment.
She was transferred to Raffles Hospital and got nine stitches to close the wound. The doctor noted that cut would likely leave a scar, said Ms Goh.
Ms Goh added that the teenager’s family shouldered the medical bill, which amounted to more than S$4,000. Follow-up check-ups are also needed.
Thanks to media coverage, Jewel responded to the incident. Ms Goh noted that they did not receive any feedback from Jewel until then.
Read Jewel’s reply below:
“We confirm that a female guest sustained an injury whilst she was at the Mirror Maze. The incident took place at about 5.15 pm on 19 June 2019. First aid was immediately administered by the attraction ranger on duty when the guest discovered the injury upon exiting the maze.
Initial investigations showed that the incident took place when the female guest was playing in the maze.
We regret the guest’s unfortunate experience and wish her a smooth recovery.
We urge all guests to stay aware of their personal safety whilst having fun at the attractions.”
“Guess such incidents are not new to them,” said Ms Goh.
“We are not accusing Jewel, we just want others to take precautions whilst bringing (sic) their loved ones there,” she said and added that they were grateful the cut didn’t pierce the eyes or other more sensitive areas.
In another incident, on June 14 a woman suffered a deep cut while visiting Canopy Park’s Sky Nets.
