20-months-old baby girl was still alive when grandmother baked her in oven: Coroner

A coroner in Mississippi, USA has revealed that an autopsy has confirmed that the 20-months-old baby girl, who was found dead in her grandmother’s home last week, was still alive when her grandmother placed her in the oven and baked her.

According to the autopsy report, the cause of death has been identified as both stabbing and burning.

The shocking murder that occurred in Bolivar County, Mississippi came to light when a relative found the lifeless body of young Royalty Marie Floyd in Caroline Jones’ home. 48-year-old Jones, Royalty’s maternal grandmother, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with first degree murder.

The police have yet to establish a motive for the crime. Sheriff Kevin Williams told US news site WREG: “Dark days such as these can only be brightened when justice has been served. I’ve been in law enforcement a long time, 26 years almost. This is one of the most horrible things I’ve ever seen.”

Like the police, the community of Bolivar County is also reeling from the young baby’s untimely death. During a candlelight vigil held for Royalty, Shaw Mayor Everett Stanton said: “The love, support, the sharing that we do there in Shaw, we always look out for each other and this was really shocking, and it hurt.”

Jones’ neighbours are equally shocked by the heartless crime. One neighbour, Earlean Carter, said, “It just shocked everybody. I thought the house was empty. I didn’t know no one lived there,” while another neighbour, Wesley Nichols, added: “How can you do a child like that? They’re innocent.”

This is not the first time that innocent children have been cooked alive in the US. Last October, a woman in Atlanta reportedly killed her two young sons by placing them in an oven and cooking them alive.

The cruel mother, Lamora Williams, called the father of the children after placing the one-year-old and two-year-old in the hot oven and showed him a gruesome video of the two toddlers being roasted alive. The toddlers did not survive.
