Grabfood driver stops and prays along the street while waiting for orders, gains much respect from netizens

Singapore – The scene is set in front of an eatery along a quiet street in Katong on December 12. Facebook user Rudy Corleone saw a GrabFood driver waiting for his order to arrive which he would then deliver to his client. While waiting, the driver sets up a plastic sheet on the floor, uses his bag to stop the mat from being blown away, and commences with his daily prayer.

It is a religious practice for Muslims to pray 5 times a day, once before dawn, another two during the early and late afternoon, once more right after sunset and lastly at night.

A series of photos captured by Corleone shows the dedication of this Grab employee. He is making great use of his spare time by immersing himself in prayer.

Netizen reactions

Leave it to social media to acquire comments and reactions from netizens, most of which were positive in this case. Many expressed their respect towards this man.

Ginna Arman stated that the actions of the driver were not for showing off or a mere act; especially since Corleone took the photos discreetly. The netizen shared respect to the man for being “such a noble and genuine [example] to the young and old generations”.

Netizen Wan As-Sahar also added that this scenario is not something new in Singapore. He himself is one of the citizens who would perform his prayers wherever possible, mainly because of the distance of the mosque from his home and workplace.

Meanwhile, there were some netizens who saw this as a breach of privacy and expressed their disapproval regarding the pictures being taken. Suresh Hans explained that the driver is “doing a faithful duty to his religion” and deserves some privacy.
