Malaysia’s Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad described Singapore and Malaysia as “twins”, even though one is “older and bigger” than the other. His comments were made during his first official visit to Singapore since the start of his tenure as Prime Minister.

Dr Mahathir also said bilateral relations have been “reasonably harmonious” between the two countries.

He also added that despite Malaysia being “older and bigger”, the two countries “have been able to live together in reasonably harmonious terms”.

He continued, adding, “It is not often that you see countries which come together and then separated and then still be able to work together and help each other.”

In a Facebook post, she said, “Received a courtesy call from Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today, who is in Singapore for an official visit.

She continued, “We affirmed the close and longstanding cooperation between Singapore and Malaysia and the strong people-to-people ties. We also had a good discussion on a broad range of issues, including how to foster greater cooperation among ASEAN Member States”.

Many netizens who commented on President Halimah’s post expressed their wishes for the Kuala Lumpur–Singapore High-Speed Rail project to continue.

Others were also curious as to which language the two leaders conversed in.
