Netizen Ironman Apek took to the Facebook page Complaint Singapore yesterday, September 10, to complain about his domestic helper, who had used his address and hp number when she borrowed money from both legal and illegal moneylenders.  His troubles began when a loan shark started sending him threatening messages.

He reported to the police that his helper had used his contact information when obtaining the loan. Apparently, the netizen alleged that the police explained how it is not actually an offense for the helper to borrow money using this information, since the helper actually lived with them.

He wrote, “what a surpise that means now Maid can do anything without employers concerned.”

He went on to write that there was another person waiting to make a report at the police station, who told him about a similar situation when her helper had brought a foreign worker to visit their apartment at night, which she reported to the police. As it turns out, there was no offense in this situation either, and the worker was not arrested.

In all caps, Ironman Apek ended his post with this question,”WHEREs THE RIGHTS AS EMPLOYER?? GOVERNMENT SHOULD STATE CLAUSE FOR EVERY MAID ABOUT USING THEIR EMPLOYERs PROPERTY FOR THEIR ACTIVITIES.

NOW IF U SEND BACK THIS MAID THAT MEANS ALL DEBT AND TROUBLE WILL BE ON OUR SHOULDER.”

Many netizens sympathized with Ironman Apek, and felt that the government should do more to protect its citizens, instead of siding with foreigners.

Others agreed that helpers can be quite a source of trouble

Others urged him to report the matter to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), or to sue the agency where the helper came from

Others endeavored to place the blame on the moneylenders

One netizen defended other helpers, however, saying that “good hearted maid won’t do that.”
