99 married, engaged, dating couples to walk 9.9km for love & commitment on 12/12 — S’pore couple also offers their wedding venue for live event

Singapore — A total of 99 couples will be reaffirming their commitment in a more significant way to one another by taking part in a 9.9 km walk to encourage deeper love for each other and more empathetic communication within their relationship.

Whether married, engaged or dating, interested couples have signed up to walk a combined 9.9 km distance virtually beginning Nov 11 until Dec 26. This can be done anytime and anywhere.

Love99 – Walk of Commitment organised by Singaporeans for Singapore. It is a ground-up initiative by a group of like-minded friends to gather people from all walks of life to contribute their time, talent, and treasure to spark meaningful conversations about love.

A walk is being used in this initiative as a symbolic act that alludes to the long, marathon journey of love. It also requires a commitment to complete a long walk, notes Love99.

This also offers couples the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation during the walk.

“The participating couples also come with a myriad of love stories and unique memories; from proposing on the first date and long-distance relationships to reuniting after a long absence because of the pandemic,” Love99 added.

On Sunday (Dec 12), a couple has also offered to use their wedding ceremony at Hotel Fort Canning for an in-person live show featuring a real solemnisation and stories from other couples.

Chair of Love99, Gerrard Lin Ah Siao, shared in a press release that his relationship with his partner had hit rock bottom, and they went to the Ministry of Social and Family Development website to search for resources on counselling.

They soon discovered that many friends face similar issues in their relationships – mainly due to the lack of communication.

“I gathered a group of extraordinary yet ordinary Singaporeans who are passionate about making a difference. After months of planning, Love99 – Walk of Commitment is the result,” said Mr Siao.

“This is a great event for us to remember how much we overcome to become a couple and build a life together, and how we have to keep persevering to ensure our marriage and family thrive,” said CEO of Centre for Fathering, Dads for Life, Bryan Tan.

“Our relationship has been like a roller coaster, up and down over these years, but the most important ingredient to keep going, will be to keep our love thankful,” said Vincent Chia and Chris Pang, who have donated to the cause.

Each couple participating in this walk are to send in a video of them walking along their favourite route while sharing in one sentence to the questions shown at https://love99.co

The initiative is also tied to a charity, with all proceeds going to the Centre for Fathering. More details can be found here. /TISG
