Two men eating at Fat Po, an eatery at Tebing Lane in Punggol, were determined to cause trouble on Saturday night (March 12), to the point of smashing a plate on the ground, pushing a female server and threatening to beat up a male staff.

In a post that has since gone viral, a woman named Carol Tan wrote about the incident on the Hawkers United – Dabao 2020 Facebook page on Sunday morning (March 13).

She had dinner at Fat Po when the incident occurred. It started when one of the men, whom she described as “definitely not tourists,” started smoking at the table.

As this is not allowed, a manager came and told him that he could not smoke there.

The man left, but when he came back, he had a bag of satay from another restaurant, which he and his companion serrated to eat.

Another Fat Po staff came over, and “nicely” told them that food from other eateries is not allowed.

However, the men insisted on eating the satay, as they were very hungry.

“Then they ask the staff, ‘Then you tell me where I can sit?’ in a very bad manner,” Ms Tan wrote.

The men said they would not eat the satay, but continued to do so.

And when their orders from Fat Po came, the server put the plates down and walked away, which upset the men.

“These 2 guys, shouted at him to come back, saying his attitude was bad because he just put the plates down and walked off.

I’m stunned… like ‘Then should he kneel down and bow, and ask you to enjoy your food?’” Ms Tan added.

One of the men, who was wearing a black shirt, stood up and smashed a plate on the ground.

Some waitstaff came over and began to clear the broken pieces.

However, the other man, who was wearing a white shirt, pushed one of the servers, a female.

“Not sure what he was trying to do though, picking up some fried chicken pieces on the floor,” commented Ms Tan. “When the female staff asked ‘Why did you push me?’ he tried to find trouble with her too.”

The manager then came to their table, telling them they did not need to pay for the meal.

However, as the two troublemakers tried to walk away, one of them (in the white shirt), challenged one male staff and threatened to beat him up.

At this point, the other customers at Fat Po decided they had enough.

“A customer Justin from another table shouted across ‘Hey, stop harassing him!” (as by now all the customers from the surrounding tables cannot stand how they abuse the staff anymore), he went over to Justin and challenged him to a fight.

Justin called the police, and they quickly scoot off.”

Ms Tan added that she hopes the police will find and penalize the two troublemakers soon.

Fat Po shared Ms Tan’s post with the following caption, saying that a police report has been filed and asking for witnesses to come forward.

“You can break our plates but you will not break our spirits! Thank you to the customers and public for standing up for our staff when they were bullied by these patrons.

Verbal and physical abuse were involved and police case has already been lodged. Please approach us if you can be a witness to the case!

Our staff are trying their best to provide you with a safe, comfortable and memorable dining experience. They do not deserve to be served with physical and mental abuse.”
