Singapore — A video of a monitor lizard trying to swallow a fish made its way around the internet after it was posted on TikTok.

The video, submitted to TISG by reader Jack Ng, was taken at a large drain along the Serangoon Park Connector.

Mr Ng asked if anyone knew the technique employed by a “veteran monitor lizard” to swallow a large fish.

He added that the lizard would scrape the fish’s dorsal fin against the rock surface by positioning it at the right angle. This ensures the fins of the fish do not pierce the stomach of the monitor lizard after eating it.

He even joked that the large reptile had a look of satisfaction on its face after devouring the fish.

Mr Ng posted the beginning of the video on his TikTok channel on Tuesday (Feb 15). He also shared the full video on YouTube:

Last month, a glimpse of nature at work was caught on camera as a family of otters tried to steal a fish from a monitor lizard that had the fish securely held in its jaws. Despite being outnumbered, the reptile used its powerful tail to whack the competition away.“Fight for the fish,” reported a Singapore Wildlife Sightings member on Tuesday (Jan 18). A netizen uploaded a video taken at the Botanical Gardens, featuring a lone monitor lizard facing off with a romp of otters. There seemed to be nine otters trying their luck to snatch the fish away.https://theindependent.sg/family-of-otters-no-match-for-lone-monitor-lizards-powerful-tail-whacking-as-they-try-to-steal-a-fish/
