Singapore — A massive fire broke out near a carpark at East Coast Park on Wednesday night (Feb 16), its billowing smoke spotted from nearby estates.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed they were alerted to the fire at 1110 East Coast Parkway at about 9:30 pm on Wednesday.

Videos of the incident showing the raging fire were shared with Mothership.

One footage showed a pillar of black smoke in contrast to the night sky.

Police cars were also spotted at the scene.

Reports noted that the fire involved the contents of a shed.

SCDF staff extinguished the flames using a foam jet.

There were no injuries reported.

SCDF is investigating the cause of the fire.

Rishi Lalwani, who lived in a condominium in Siglap, told The Straits Times that he saw the blaze from his 18-floor apartment balcony.

“Our apartment has a view of East Coast Park, so during our usual evening breather at the balcony, we saw a huge line of smoke coming from the direction of the park,” he said.

A major fire also broke out at 135 East Coast Road on Feb 2, 2019.

A total of 11 emergency vehicles and about 35 firefighters were deployed to the scene, said SCDF in a Facebook post.

At the height of the operations, five water jets, including an Unmanned Firefighting Machine, were used to bring the fire under control.

It took firefighters about two hours to extinguish the flames, which involved the contents of a furniture shop. /TISG
