An accident at the Causeway Checkpoint on Thursday morning (July 7) saw a 12-vehicle pile-up.
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said the accident occurred beyond the international boundary leading to Woodlands Checkpoint, which means it happened on Malaysia’s side.
Videos taken at the scene show a large truck slowly ramming into several cars before stopping.
The accident had blocked two of the three lanes on the highway, and travellers had been told in an earlier advisory to expect delays.
ICA said by noon, however, that all lanes had been cleared, although it advised travellers to check the LTA’s One Motoring website for updates before going in that direction.
The side of one vehicle was completely crushed.
Clips show at least eight affected vehicles in the pile-up, including a sports utility vehicle, a multipurpose vehicle, a van, a public bus, and four cars.
Some videos show a white van being towed away from the scene, while others show debris on the highway in the aftermath of the mishap. The damaged vehicles can also be seen being moved to the side of the road.
The accident occurred at around 9 o’clock on Thursday morning.
“The incident involved 12 vehicles. No one sustained any injuries, and investigations are underway to find out the cause of the incident.
Police are investigating the case under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” The Star reports Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat as saying. /TISG
