A taxi driver took to social media to remind his colleagues to serve the public with the right attitude following an altercation with a stubborn driver who lost a passenger because he didn’t know the directions.

“If you don’t have the passion and enthusiasm of driving a taxi for a living, please quit!” said a Facebook page Complaint Singapore member on Sunday (Sept 25).

The incident involved a ComfortDelGro (CDG) taxi driver who was first in the queue at Jurong Point taxi stand and a second taxi driver who was next in line.

A passenger got in the CDG taxi, but alighted a few minutes later and boarded the next taxi.

“The rider told me the front driver refused to take him cuz he doesn’t know where’s No 2, Turf Club Rd,” said the driver who was willing to take the passenger.

However, the taxi in front refused to move out of the queue.

“I went down to ask the driver to move out, but the driver used foul language on me and told me to reverse out instead,” the second taxi driver said, adding it was during peak hours.

“It’s a dangerous act and selfish to ask me to reverse as when an accident (happens), the driver holds no responsibility.”

The concerned taxi driver filed a complaint to CDG, but “received only a warning for the said driver.”

The driver rejected a potential rider with no valid reason, used foul language on another driver when asked to move out of the queue, and asked another driver to reverse on a busy road, said the second taxi citing his colleague’s offences.

“I would like to advise commuters, if (you) encounter irresponsible drivers, please make a complaint to the taxi company.”

“Eliminate the black sheep out of the trade. Please be reminded no matter what service line you are in, serve the public in heart followed by your earning,” he added.

Netizens agreed with the post, noting it was common understanding to move out of the queue when not picking up a passenger.

“This was practice for so long even in the class; the instructor knows the practice on the ground. Driver nowadays lost, no proper class conducted,” said a Facebook user.
