A man took to social media to complain about the heavy traffic due to the Singapore Grand Prix, which resumed this weekend after two years of cancellation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He was unhappy about the F1 road closure, roads being closed for the Formula 1 Grand Prix, causing traffic jams.
Mr Hung Boon Aidan Chua wrote in an Oct 1 (Saturday) post on the Complaint Singapore Facebook page that “Whoever planned th F1 road closure needs to be fired. Cars jamming everywhere.”
And while some netizens were sympathetic, others pointed out that the Land Transport Authority had issued reminders concerning traffic closures well in advance.
On Sept 23, the LTA said that a series of road closures affecting the Marina Centre and Padang area would be taking place from Sept 28 to Oct 4 “to facilitate the setting up and dismantling of the race infrastructure for the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix 2022.”
By 5:30 am on Oct 4, all roads will be fully accessible again.
The prestigious event, which occurs over three days (Sept 30 to Oct 2) had been announced months ago.
Some commenters appeared to agree with the poster.
Others, however, wrote that road closures had been announced days before, and gave the poster some practical advice.
People had been “encouraged to take public transport to the affected area,” one commenter pointed out.
Another urged him to not go out unless it was necessary.
One netizen pointed out “There something called “AVOID”.
One man commented that he had taken the train that morning, and had nothing to complain about.
Others urged him to take public transport or use GPS apps such as Waze to prevent him from getting stuck in traffic jams.
A number of commenters pointed out that this is hardly a new situation, as the Singapore Grand Prix has been held for years. 
Another said that he went to Thailand during F1 week in order to avoid the traffic.
