Singapore — Wang Lei may not be everyone’s cup of tea, judging from reactions from some quarters when it was announced that the getai singer turned online fish seller would be included in this year’s lineup of speakers at the Singapore Writers Festival (SWF).
Some, it seems, took exception to Mr Wang, who is also known as ‘Mai Yu Ge’ (‘Fish Selling Bro’) for his often expletive-laced manner of speaking, and felt that it was inappropriate for SWF, to be held this year from Nov 5 to 14, in online and in-person venues.
