SINGAPORE: Two men aged 29 and 37 have been arrested and were charged in court on August 19, 2026, for their suspected involvement in two separate housebreaking cases, both cracked through ground enquiries and CCTV footage.
First case: Tuas Crescent
The Police were alerted to a housebreaking along Tuas Crescent at about 2:50 a.m. on August 8, 2026. Officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the 29-year-old man through CCTV images and arrested him on August 17, 2026.
Preliminary investigations revealed he is believed to be linked to additional housebreaking cases beyond the Tuas Crescent incident.
He will be charged with housebreaking under Section 448 of the Penal Code 1871, which carries imprisonment of up to three years and a fine.
Second case: Jalan Salang
A housebreaking at a private residential estate along Jalan Salang was reported at 7:10 a.m. on August 13, 2026, with cash amounting to S$170 purportedly stolen. Officers from Woodlands Police Division identified the 37-year-old man through CCTV footage and arrested him on August 17, 2026.
He will be charged with housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code 1871, which carries imprisonment of up to ten years and a fine.
Crime prevention advice
The Police advised property owners to secure all doors, windows, and openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks before leaving premises unattended.
The public should also avoid keeping large sums of cash or valuables at home or in commercial premises, and install burglar alarms, motion sensor lights, and CCTV cameras covering all access points. Finally, make sure that these are tested regularly and kept in working order to ensure that they work well and fulfill their purpose.
