Maybe some people are taking the term “public property” much too literally?

Laundry hanging on public exercise equipment at Redhill Road surprised and even dismayed a netizen, who took photos of the clothes drying in the sun.

In an Instagram post on crowdsourced news site Stomp, a netizen named Chua wrote, ”Some inconsiderate residents hung their laundry on the public fitness equipment at Block 74A Redhill Road.”

It’s extremely uncivilised of them to treat public amenities as their own property. I hope the relevant authorities can do something. Photos taken on Aug 17, at 12.55pm.”

One netizen commenting on the post said they hoped the laundry would not get full of germs after being hung in such a public place.

Another claimed that because housing is so small these days, there’s hardly any room to do laundry.

Some netizens seemed unsurprised and said that this kind of inconsiderate behaviour is not that unusual.

However, one commenter wrote that this is “Not a crime” as they are “sure this resident paid for residential public property used.

But others questioned this.

Some netizens said the laundry should just be thrown away.

But a number of commenters said the laundry should just be used to clean the equipment.

And some netizens chose to find humour in the incident.

But one said that as long as no one is using the equipment, no harm was done.
