Singaporean vendor takes a jab at viral ‘duct-taped banana’ masterpiece

Recently, an art piece titled Comedian which was created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan became viral worldwide. The art piece is  simply a single piece of banana duct-taped to the gallery wall.

Soon after that, a Singaporean durian seller made a parody of the modest yet ‘sophisticated’ work of art which was displayed at the Art Basel show in Miami Beach in the US.

The original artwork was sold to a French collector for a whopping USD$120,000 and it became the most-talked about artwork recently.

David Datuna, a Georgian-born American artist surprised spectators when he walked up to the exorbitantly-priced banana and removed it from the wall.

He shocked a group of bystanders when he calmly peeled the fruit and took a bite of the banana.

It was stated that the artwork comes with duct tape and Pahang Mao Shan Wang 2.15kg (wall not included).

Netizens found the joke funny and praised the shop owner for his humour, leaving comments in the comments section.

All across the Internet, netizens have also posted their own version of duct tape-inspired artwork.

59-year-old Maurizio Cattelan is an Italian artist and he is self-taught.

He does hyperrealistic sculptures and installations as well as curating and publishing.

He is known as a joker or prankster of the art world due to his satirical approach to art. -/TISG
