After realising she was allergic to dog fur, a woman in China had to let go of her Shiba Inu dog to a friend who lived 8km away.

However, the woman was surprised to see her loyal pup at her doorstep, adding he had travelled about two hours back home. A video of the reunion was uploaded in Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.

The owner, named Zhao, noted in the caption that she suffered from severe asthma and was hospitalised due to her condition. She admitted she had no choice but to give her Shiba Inu, named Saisai, whom she raised for eight years, to a friend as her asthma worsened.

She was then surprised to hear a noise at her door, only to discover Saisai waiting for her excitedly. “How did you come back? How did you run back?” asked Zhao in Mandarin.

At one point, it appeared that Saisai was crying, so Zhao gently caressed his head and told him not to cry. She, too, sniffled at the end of the video.

The story ends on a good note as Zhao got Saisai a new dog house, and he will continue living with his human.

The video was recently reposted on South China Morning Post’s Facebook page, garnering heartfelt comments from netizens.

“She chose you to be her human. So cherish her well,” said Facebook user Deborah R. Piamonte.

“To the owner, it’s just a dog. To the dog, the owner is its everything,” added Facebook user Tan Chin Lee.

One Rebecca Lim shared how her four dogs also found their way back home after she sent them to a better place as she was not able to feed them every day. “Sent away by boat. In four days, saw them out of the house. Don’t know how our dog know the way back home.” /TISG
