A Scoot flight from Bali was delayed from landing in Singapore on Monday (Nov 14). The reason? Some passengers refused to fasten their seatbelts.

A TikToker present on the flight captured the captain’s announcement of the delay, as well as the aftermath when the plane landed and passengers were finally allowed to deplane, with some seen being questioned by the authorities.

The video from Mr Audi Khalid has since gone viral, racking up almost two million views. “What happens when you dont fasten your seatbelt,” he wrote.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” the captain says, “We have decided to discontinue the approach into Singapore Changi Airport. And this is because I was informed that we still have got passengers who are not seated with seatbelts securely fastened. We are legally not able to land an aircraft if the cabin isn’t secured…

We are now turning around again for another approach, and if we have to do another missed approach for the same reason, the airport police will be involved, and they will take necessary action,” he added, before reminding all the passengers “once again” to sit down securely and buckle up.

Another message can be heard later announcing that authorities would be boarding the plane, asking passengers to remain seated and assuring them that they will be allowed to disembark once the clearance is given.

Persons wearing “Auxiliary Police” vests are then seen walking the aisles, and at one point a woman with a crying infant is escorted out.

The captain assures the passengers that protocol is being followed for everyone’s safety, including the crew members, and apologizes again for the delay.

The clip ends at a point when passengers are already at the airport, with some being spoken to by officials.

Scoot issued a statement on Tuesday (Nov 15).

”The flight landed safely on the second approach at Changi Airport without further incident, and the involved passengers were escorted off the aircraft by airport authorities for further investigation,” CNA quotes Scoot as saying, adding that investigations are being carried out.

Netizens commenting on Mr Audi’s video were doing the online equivalent of shaking their heads.

“Why is it so difficult to fasten your seat belts?” wrote one commenter, which spawned its own sub-thread.

Some complimented the captain, who stayed calm and cool throughout the incident.

Others praised the crew.
