Police have confirmed the arrest of seven teenage boys in connection with the fire at Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah school, which claimed the lives of 21 students and 2 warden, early Thursday, reported The Star.
The police said the attack was prompted by “mocking”.
“The motive was to cause a fire,” Amar said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur tonight.

However, the report on the arrest of the seven boys went viral over social media on Saturday.

The 5.15 am fire at the Tahfiz school resulted in the death of 21 students and two teachers.
Six others students sustained injuries.
The WhatsApp message circulating in Malaysia says the fire that ravaged the Islamic school dormitory was a criminal act.
The message published here in Malay (see below) says 7 boys aged between 18 and 12 were arrested for causing the fire in an act of vengeance.
According to the message – which has a police report (Case) number – says the boys planned the attack on the dorm in the night and at least two of them were caught on CCTV near the school and one of them seen climbing a wall leading to the school.
The report lists the names of the culprits, their Malaysian ID numbers and indicates why they plotted the mass murder.
It is said they were berated by the school students after they were caught smoking pot in a field or river behind the school.
According to The Star, six of the seven teenagers arrested in connection with the deadly fire at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah school have tested positive for ganja.
The Malaysian police earlier said they arrested two boys who were seen on CCTV.
The fire ravaged the top floor of the school and police today said (according to media reports) they found traces of petrol at the entrance of the dorm.
Based on the WhatsApp message, two of the boys were given the duty to buy the fuel in a can before they carried out their revenge after some of them met at a restaurant near the School.
If they are tied to the fire, the death of the 23 students and warden would amount to mass murder, an act rarely seen in Malaysia.
