Singapore Democratic Party organising secretary Jufri Salim joined his fellow party members earlier in the week as they made their rounds in constituencies that the party had contested in previous Singapore General Election.
Along with party’s treasurer Surayah Akbar, CEC member Naresh Subramaniam and Abdul Salim, they visited residents at Marsiling – Yew Tee and Sembawang GRC.
In recent weeks, the party has ramped up the frequency of their house visits to as much as three times per week, with the recent outreach at Block 177 at Woodlands Street 13. Similar to previous house visits, residents warmly opened their door to the SDP members and shared their concerns and feedback to them.
“Municipal issues were brought up and residents are concerned about the spalling concrete that they noticed at the staircase,” posted Salim on Facebook after their visit to the residents.
“We have advised the residents to make a report to the OneService App for the relevant authorities to take action. Hoarding habits by fellow neighbours were also brought up.”
Jufri who has been with the party for more than a decade, taking up various leadership roles including their youth wing and contributing to their election campaign too, visited Block 644 at Woodlands Ring Road last Friday.
Most of the residents whom we met were supportive of having SDP as the other alternative in their constituency. As we spoke with residents, we were given a peek into some of the issues that they were facing,” shared the SDP Sembawang GRC Facebook page.
“We learnt from this round of visits that tolerance and responsibility are vital factors in building harmony amongst neighbours. This also brings to mind the saying that teaches us to do unto others as we would have them to do unto us.”
The National Solidarity Party contested Sembawang GRC in the 2020 and 2015 general election, getting 32.71% and 27.72% of the votes respectively. SDP last contested that constituency in 2011 led by its then assistant secretary general John Tan. The party contested Marsiling – Yew Tee in 2020 and garnered 36.82% of the votes.
