When you eat at a nice restaurant, the last thing you expect to see is a rat. And when you do see a rat, the last thing you expect is to be yelled at by the restaurant staff for taking a video of the rodent.

But this is exactly what happened to a man named Nicholas, while he was having a meal at Wine Connection Tapas Bar & Bistro in Robertson Walk on Sunday (Aug 21).

He told crowdsourced news site Stomp about the unfortunate experience, and even sent a video of one creature scurrying about under the table.

Yeah, not so appetizing, is it?

He told Stomp that he had been at the bistro with family and friends when he saw the rat, which he described as “wasn’t even afraid of us when we tried to make it go away.”

He then began filming the rodent as proof, which earned the ire of one of the female employees of the F&B joint.

Nicholas said that the woman shouted at him for taking the clip, claiming that her face was included in the video, which Nicholas denied.

“It is appalling to witness an employee of such a respected chain restaurant behave in such a manner. We were all shocked and disappointed to have been treated this way,” he added.

The woman only apologised later when Nicholas’s brother, whom he describes as “a chef of a famous restaurant,” took her to task “for such service and scolding me for no reason.”

And when the manager approached their party, they said, “We have already called the pest controller. Sorry about this.”

Nicholas added that they were given a complimentary $30 off, “but the experience was already bad.”

Stomp reached out to Wine Connection for a comment regarding the unfortunate incident.

The restaurant said, ”We apologise for the customer’s unpleasant experience with our staff who was on duty that day. Her behaviour does not reflect our service guidelines and standards. We have already investigated the matter and taken action accordingly.”

The restaurant added that they had already contacted pest control on the day of the incident so that the issue would be taken care of.

“We’d like to also assure you that we have hygiene practices and policies in place, which include regular pest control checks and preventive treatments.

We take all feedback seriously and will continue to strive for high levels of hygiene and customer service,” Wine Connection added. /TISG
