Singapore — A pregnant woman who had no cash on her to buy herself lunch at  Kopitiam in VivoCity expressed her thanks to the manager of a food court manager who paid for her meal.

Oddly enough, the woman who identifies herself as Pamela Loh posted her story on Wednesday (Dec 22) to Complaint Singapore on Facebook.

She said she had gone to the Kopitiam food court in the basement of the mall to have lunch.

She had brought only a credit card and mobile phone with her, “because who uses cash nowadays with so many electronic payment options”, she said. Apparently, Kopitiam does.

“So, being heavily pregnant, hungry and badly craving for Pepper Lunch, I went up to try to buy a Kopitiam card from the machine,” said Ms Loh.

But Kopitiam accepts only cash or the Kopitiam Card in payment, and the card has to be topped up with cash. That is what Ms Loh found out from the manager on duty when she asked for help.

“Being extremely desperate, I asked him if I could personally transfer S$20 via PayNow to him for cash from him,” said Ms Loh.

The manager, Mr Iqbal, told her to go ahead and order, and he would be over in a moment.

When she had done so, he came over and asked if she wanted to add more dishes. He then tapped his own Kopitiam Card on the device and paid for the meal.

“I had already whipped out my phone, logged into PayNow just waiting for his mobile number,” said Ms Loh.“ And then he turned to me and said the meal was on him!”

Ms Loh thanked Mr Iqbal for the extra special meal. “It was really sweet what you did for a total stranger. Grateful to have met you today,” she added. /TISG
