Earlier, it was reported that PRC Yang Yin used a fake degree to apply for EP and PR in Singapore, and somehow, the ICA and MOM have both failed to detect Yang’s fake degree (https://theindependent.sg.sg/why-did-mom-and-ica-fail-to-detect-yang-yins-fake-degree-in-the-first-place).
Yang’s case of using a fake degree in his applications first came to light in 2014 when the mainstream media exposed him. It was found out that Yang has stated in his EP/PR application that he has a Bachelor’s degree from the “University of Financial and Trade” (北京财经贸易学院) in Beijing.
The mainstream media journalists were able to ascertain that there is no such university in Beijing.
y2A simple google search shows that as early as in 2013, the PRC government has already published a list of fake universities to warn the public about it (http://xw.qq.com/news/20130630003159/HBC2013063000315900). The “University of Financial and Trade” (北京财经贸易学院) was in the list.
Did the MOM and ICA officials bother to check through its database against the list of fake Chinese universities provided by the PRC government so as to ferret out all the illegal EP/PR applications?
If they have done so in 2013 or earlier, Yang Yin’s illegal application would have been found out.
Why did MOM and ICA officials not bother to check and have to wait for journalists to do the job for them?
MOM’s annual budget alone is nearly $2 billion and surely they have enough manpower to check and sift through all applications?
What about the other fake universities in the list? Would MOM and ICA officials bother to check too?
How many more “Yang Yins” are there living and working among us with fake degrees?
This is a sad affair in Singapore considering the fact that our own Singaporean kids have to struggle to get a good degree from our own institutions and yet they have to compete with foreigners with fake degrees working here.
