20-year-old woman jumps to her death off skybridge at Pinnacle@Duxton, despite SCDF safety cushions

Singapore—A 20-year-old woman jumped off of the sky bridge on the 50th floor at the Pinnacle@Duxton. The woman missed the two safety cushions the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) had set up, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

On Monday, October 14, the SCDF responded to an emergency call that involved an individual who had been sitting on a ledge at 1B Cantonment Road. The call came in at approximately 7:30 in the evening.

Police say that the woman was found unmoving on the ground in front of the building.

According to the SCDF, “The person jumped and fell beyond the air packs. The person was pronounced dead at the scene by SCDF paramedics.”

The police have categorised the demise of the young woman as unnatural death, and an investigation is now ongoing concerning the incident.

In the past few months, the SCDF has responded to similar “rescue incidents” of people sitting on the ledges of high buildings. Early in August, both the SCDF and police come to aid of man sitting on the 7th-floor ledge of Tanjong Pagar condominium.

The man eventually re-entered the apartment via an open window, after which he was apprehended by the police.

The man, reportedly in his 30s, sat beside the outdoor portion of an air conditioning unit, in a white tank top, baseball cap, and dark glasses.

SCDF officers put up netting around the ledge where the man sat, as a preventative measure to keep the man from attempting to jump off of the building. SCDF officers were seen on the ledges above and under the one where the man sat. A safety life air was also seen on the grounds outside the building.

Later that month, the SCDF was able to rescue a 17-year-old girl who was seen sitting on the ledge of a multi-story carpark at Toa Payoh shortly past 8:30 on the evening of August 31. She had been weeping and had her legs over the ledge. Shortly afterward, the SCDF arrived on the scene and were able to pull her to safety. The girl was sent to the hospital and then arrested after her rescue. -/TISG
