Nvidia CEO says that if he were a student today, he would learn AI to have a successful career

INTERNATIONAL: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said that if he were a student today, the first thing he would take advantage of is learning artificial intelligence (AI) to build a successful career.

Speaking on the Huge Conversations show with Cleo Abram in January, Mr Huang said, “The first thing I would do is to learn AI,” mentioning already available tools like ChatGPT, Gemini Pro, and Grok, CNBC Make It reported.

He said learning how to interact with AI comes down to being good at asking the right questions. “Prompting AI is very similar,” he noted, explaining that you can’t just ask a bunch of random questions. “Asking AI to be an assistant to you requires some expertise and artistry of how to prompt it,” he added.

According to the Nvidia CEO, if someone asked an entrepreneur, “Tell me about your business,” the question would be too broad and hard to answer. A better question would be, “Can you explain the first steps to launching an online retail business?”

Lazarus AI prompt director Kelly Daniel made a similar point in CNBC Make It in February, explaining that it helps to think of the chatbot as a smart child to ask better questions. “They’re limited by their lack of context and previous experience, and it’s your job to provide that context,” she said.

Sharing her tips, she said prompts should be clear and concise so the AI model can respond better. Breaking instructions into steps or a list works better than long paragraphs, and including examples makes it easier for the AI to understand what you’re asking for.

Mr Huang said this kind of skill will remain relevant no matter what career field someone wants to do in the future. “Whether it’s for math or science or chemistry or biology—doesn’t matter what field of science I’m going into or what profession—I’m going to ask myself, ‘How can I use AI to do my job better?’” he said.

In Singapore, schools have already started moving in this direction. Last year, the city-state’s Ministry of Education began upgrading its Student Learning Space platform with AI learning tools as part of its national AI strategy and EdTech Masterplan 2030 to customise learning recommendations for each student. /TISG
