A concerned public member asked the online community if their utility bill also went up as his reached S$373.

“Just to check with everyone, do your utility bill skyrocket this month? I wonder why?” asked Complaint Singapore Facebook page member Raziff Iskandar Bin Osman, attaching a photo of his billing from Singapore Power (SP) Group.

On top of netizens agreeing that utility costs are on the increase and SP being on the expensive side, some advised Mr Raziff to switch to another service provider.

“If you are open to the idea of switching electricity provider, just do so. Go do some research on which retailer is the cheapest and sign up with them,” said Facebook user Ted Dex.

“This way, you would not be subject to the frequent tariff adjustment rate from the main player. Every little bit you save makes up to a lot in a year or two. More so since your consumption is high.”

“Amazing. Almost 28cents/kWh. My existing contract with Keppel is still at ~17cents/kWh. Must move away from SP,” said another netizen, while another advised going for a supplier with a fixed rate.

Meanwhile, Facebook user Jim See expressed frustration at the overall process. “Switch for what!! They can just simply lower the rate, and that’s all. Why need to outsource and make us play their game. Power supply is under them. Just lower the rate will not kill.”

One Be Phua noted that the checking process might include some lapses.

“They never really checked. Last two weeks, I was with my mum in a lift with a PUB guy with a meter. He alights at some floor only. My mum still asked me, ‘he don’t go every floor?’ I told my mum, ‘do you see any guy come to our doorstep with a scanner to do recording these few years?’ You know the answer, lah, no need me to say further.”

Facebook user Doc Poopie advised checking one’s meter to avoid overcharging. “Every time I submit myself my bill, only 90 plus but when usage estimated always becomes higher,” he said.
