‘My dear son, Mummy is very sorry to have brought you into this family where your father loves playing with his hp rather than with you’

What do you do when your husband appears to prefer playing games on his cellphone rather than spending time with his own child? For one mum, writing an apology letter to her son and posting it online—even if she did it anonymously—seemed to be part of the solution.

Her letter, posted on the SG Whispers page on Thursday (June 16) begins this way: ‘To my dear son D. Mummy is very sorry to brought you into this family where your father apparently loves playing with his hp rather than with you.’

The woman wrote that her husband is “always playing with not one but two hps” while their son plays alone when she gets home from the office or checks the CCTV at home. She added, “It breaks my heart that you are only 2 years old and yet you do not have your father’s love.”

Her bad feelings at what she perceives as neglect on her husband’s part have affected her so deeply that she cried on the train on the way home from work while she watched CCTV footage.

Their son was “just walking around in the living room and playing with your toys occasionally” while his father’s “eyes were stuck on the two hps.”

This is something that she has discussed and even quarrelled about with her husband, she added, but he still does not understand her point.

“To him, he feels that since we have a helper, then the helper should play with you while he can just ‘supervise’.”

The woman’s heartbreak also seems to stem from having waited for many years for their child, and that she’s been the one bearing the brunt of childcare.

“Since you were born, not once had he done any night feedings and on most nights he is the one who falls asleep first while I struggled with putting you to bed. I am always amazed how he can become much awake the moment you fall asleep and continue with his handphone games until much later like 2 or 3am.”

However, she called her son’s father “a good man” and “a good husband,” but not a good father in her eyes, as he “does not know how to love his child.”

“Nevertheless, mummy promise that I will do my best to give you the best that I can provide in anyway,” she added.

Netizens had a lot to say about her situation.

One commenter disagreed with the woman calling her husband good.

Others encouraged her to talk to her husband more.
