A day before he was due to return home through the vaccinated travel lane (VTL), 36-year-old Mohammad Syaifful got involved in a road accident in Tampines, leading to his death.
The Malaysian welding technician was on his motorcycle early Thursday morning (Feb 24) when he reportedly tried avoiding a 72-year-old man crossing the road along Tampines Avenue 1.
Mr Syaifful lost control of his motorcycle and crashed.
He was conveyed to the hospital, where he later died from injuries. According to the Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News, the elderly pedestrian was also taken to the hospital.
Charity organisation 1ThirdMedia Movement was in charge of Mr Syaifful’s funeral, keeping the public updated through its Facebook page.
The deceased’s friends came together to arrange for his final journey home.
A video uploaded by 1ThirdMedia Movement showed a convoy of motorcycles and cars accompanying the van carrying Mr Syaifful’s casket. The casket was transported from Singapore Funeral Services at Toa Payoh to Tuas Checkpoint on Feb 24.
Mr Syaifful was laid to rest at a cemetery in Batu Pahat, said the charity organisation.
1ThirdMedia Movement also raised over S$2,100 for Mr Syaifful’s family. “We represent the family of the late Syaifful and would like to say a million thank you to all of those willing to give this contribution,” the organisation wrote on Feb 26.
Mr Syaifful’s father, Abdul Rahman Kamari, told The New Paper that he initially knew his son was involved in a traffic accident.
“It was only later that I realised that my son had died,” he said in Malay, noting he had last seen Mr Syaifful, his eldest, in January.
His son, who was divorced, has been working in Singapore for about five years to support the family, reports noted.
His wife is still in shock that their son “returned home for good in a coffin,” said Mr Rahman.
He also expressed his gratitude to everyone who pitched in to donate or help bring his son home.
“My son must have been a good man, for him to be loved and cared for by so many,” said MR Rahman. “We know that he is with Allah now.” /TISG
