Singaporean helps victims slashed by men with machetes during armed robbery in JB, reward offered to public for information

A group of men armed with machetes entered a reserved room in a restaurant in Johor Bahru and allegedly slashed victims conducting a sale of Rolex watches. One person in a group of Singaporeans at the scene bravely rushed to help despite the apparent danger.

Facebook user Yijie posted details of the daylight robbery, which happened on June 8, from around 1:20 pm to 1:30 pm at Monet, a restaurant at Mount Austin, Johor Bahru. Yijie said that six men armed with machetes rushed into the restaurant’s private room. He appealed to the public for any leads or recordings of the incident. The concerned individual appears to be an employee of Monet. He added that a reward would be provided.

A video of a man crossing a small road for cars rather slowly and getting frustrated at a vehicle that honked at him is circulating online, eliciting mixed responses from the online community.

“I remember in driving school, we were told that even if the elderly jaywalk, don’t anyhow honk at them. What if he got a shock, suffered heart attack or something,” wrote Facebook user Keiko Lee on the post uploaded to community page Complaint Singapore on Saturday (June 11).

Sixteen-year-old Ava Soh made many Singaporeans proud when a t-shirt that she designed was worn by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Shangri-La Dialogue on Saturday (June 11).

The teen, a Secondary 4 student at St Joseph’s Institution International, had sent a black t-shirt with a girl spray-painting the blue and yellow colours of the Ukraine flag to the President only recently.

‘He’s my long time friend!’ — Auntie says of WP MP Faisal Manap

An especially happy greeting met Workers’ Party’s Muhamad Faisal bin Abdul Manap (Aljunied GRC), during a visit to a Hawker Centre at Kaki Bukit on Sunday (June 12).

This joyous greeting was noted in a post on the Aljunied GRC Facebook page on Sunday evening. The post also featured a number of photos from the visit of Mr Faisal with some WP volunteers talking to diners at the hawker centre. Upon seeing Mr Faisal, an elderly woman said, “He’s my long time friend!”

‘We must turn the Sports Hub into a sporting home for all to enjoy,’ Edwin Tong on takeover of Singapore Sports Hub

After it was announced on Friday (Jun 10) that starting from Dec 9, Sport Singapore would take over Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong expressed excitement over the takeover.

In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Today marks a new chapter for the Sports Hub.”
