Calvin Cheng: ‘Stupid’ for PAP to send in losing candidates, grassroots advisers to present awards in opposition territory

Singapore — Former Nominated Member of Parliament Calvin Cheng weighed in on the issue of who should be giving out awards in areas held by opposition MPs.

Mr Cheng wrote in a Jan 30 Facebook post that Workers’ Party MP Jamus Lim (Sengkang GRC) had “once again re-ignited the issue of Opposition MPs presenting Edusave and other awards through the People’s Association.”

Ho Ching to become advisor for international investment firm EQT

Singapore — Former Temasek Holdings chief executive officer (CEO) and wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Ho Ching, will be taking an advisory role for global investment firm EQT.

“EQT Future is proud to announce the appointment of three high-caliber business executives with strong impact expertise to its Mission Board,” said EQT in a statement on Jan 27.

OCBC phishing scam affected 790 victims; total loss reached S$13.7 million

Singapore — In a statement issued on Sunday (Jan 30), OCBC Bank said that the total amount lost in last month’s phishing scam is at S$13.7 million and 790 people in all had been victimised in the scam.

These figures were updated from the earlier report this month that there had been nearly 470 OCBC customers who had fallen prey to the scam and who had lost at least S$8.5 million.
