People of all backgrounds and vehicles of all setups gathered on Friday (Apr 29) for a Mega Meet organised by car enthusiast website Basement 1.
“Everyone is welcomed. All makes, all vehicles, photographers, enthusiasts, spotters or whoever you may be!” said Basement 1 in its Facebook post of the event, noting it has waited two years to make it happen.
Based on a TikTok video uploaded on Saturday (Apr 30) by @mcspicyumyum, car enthusiasts and vehicles, vintage and modern, showed up for the event.
From a Lancer Evo VII, Porsche 911, Audi R8 and Subaru STI to a 7th Gen Toyota Corolla and the iconic Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 from Initial D, the consecutive sound of engines revving gave car enthusiasts much satisfaction and excitement.
Amid the cheer and celebration, three Traffic Police officers on motorcycles arrived at the scene.
“We got visitors,” wrote TikTok user @yarobthebob in a separate video.
Basement 1 did note in its announcement to “expect law enforcement to be there” due to the changes in Covid-19 regulations.
“We cannot promise that it will be a night without them, but if we all come in peace and do our part without being a nuisance, we believe it wouldn’t get us in trouble,” it said.
The organisers reminded everyone to refrain from blocking traffic going in and out of the Kallang carpark and to be considerate to the patrons of the nearby commercial establishments.
In an Instagram post on Saturday, Basement 1 said it was aware of the TP’s presence at the event.
“They did not take action as they actually already knew of this event and gave the green light to proceed as it was very clear that no rules were being broken to organise a meet.”
However, people were being irresponsible at the end of the meet; therefore, law enforcement had to take action, said Basement 1.
“The purpose of the meet was for all automotive enthusiasts to socialise and enjoy each other’s cars and bikes parked at the venue,” it noted.
“Every individual person at the venue who decides to be irresponsible should understand that actions have consequences, and no matter how small these actions are, it will be a reflection of the entire meetup and the people who attendee for the intended reasons,” said Basement 1, noting it would host more events but require the cooperation of everyone to act responsibly./TISG
