Meet “the most paikia (badass) kid in Singapore” — Neighbourhood “Garfield” cat goes viral on social media

SINGAPORE: A video of a neighbourhood cat sitting by a building, seemingly without a care in the world even as it was filmed up close, has gone viral on social media. The “chonky” feline’s stare won the hearts of many Singaporeans.

“The Most paikia (badass) kid in Singapore,” was the caption of a video that was shared with the Facebook group Singapore Incidents on Sunday (Aug 6). The one-minute and 16 seconds clip features a cat leaning against a wall, staring nonchalantly as the camera draws closer. The cat maintains its unbothered gaze almost directly at the videographer.

The video of the feline has garnered over 75,000 views on Facebook alone.

Many online users likened the cat to a famous comic strip character who is also a chubby and lovable feline.

Many others gushed about how adorable the cat was in the video. “What an amazing video that shows the pure innocence of a cute and wonderful cat that is sitting and wondering about his daily expenses & monthly bills,” said one.

Another said, “So cute…i find him, I bring him home.”

Others commented on the cat’s size, with one saying, “I love it, so cute…but you need to go on a diet, sweetie.”

“I wanna squish its face!” another shared.

One user saw another possible side to the sighting, hypothesising that the cat was abandoned. “He can be the cutest paikia but I’m sure there’s a sad story behind him living on the streets,” the netizen wrote. “This cutie had been abandoned for more than a year. Had seen him around our place. Myself found and adopted a female cutie most probably from the same family as they share the same chonky and cute face. I found my cutiepie wandering at the same location few years ago but unfortunately unable to take this paikia ahpui home.”

Another wished the cat well, saying, “Handsome boy. I hope he finds a loving home.”

Still, one online user shared why cats in Singapore are fortunate. “Cats in Singapore are the luckiest cats in the world because they can eat well even if they don’t have owners. Singaporeans are the best.”
