A man got dragged across the street after grabbing onto the steering wheel of a moving car at Geylang.

On Wednesday night (Nov 23), a man and his friend were planning to eat frog porridge after getting their hair washed at a barber shop along Geylang Lorong 17 and 19.

As they were about to enter their cars, the man’s friend heard a commotion, reported Chinese language newspaper Shin Min Daily News.

His friend’s car appeared to have been scratched, and at the same time, they saw a black car trying to leave the scene.

The man suspected the perpetrator to be the driver of the black car, so he stopped the vehicle from leaving and got into an altercation with the driver.

The vehicle driver continued on his attempt to leave the scene and swerved right, despite the man holding onto the steering wheel.

As a result, the man was dragged on the road about 10 metres.

He eventually let go of the steering wheel and fell to the ground.

According to two staff from the frog porridge eatery, they heard screeching outside and found the man injured on the road.

It was reported that blood flowed from the back of his head onto the ground, and he also suffered from a bruised nose and head injuries.

The staff recalled that people passed by to look at the man but didn’t dare to touch him.

Police have since confirmed the incident after receiving an alert for a rash act committed in Geylang.

A 34-year-old man was conveyed to the hospital while conscious.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Netizens commented on the incident and said that a car was only a material thing and should not be held in higher regard than one’s life.

“Aiyo, not worth it. Just take down the number and report it. Car can be repaired. But life is much more precious than the car. Hope he recovers from this incident,” said Facebook user Joe Lim.

“Life and safety are more important. That car, no matter how you take good care, after 10 years, still need to be scrapped. It’s just a piece of materialism,” added another netizen./TISG
