MALAYSIA: National carmaker Proton subsidiary Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET) has launched the Proton e.MAS 5, Malaysia’s first electric vehicle (EV) priced below RM100,000 (S$30,860), starting from RM56,800, lower than previous estimates of RM60,000 to RM80,000.
The new fully electric hatchback follows the launch of Proton e.MAS 7 late last year. While the first batch will be imported from China, Proton plans to begin local assembly at its new EV plant in Tanjung Malim, Malay Mail reported.
e.MAS 5 Prime is priced at RM59,800, while its Premium version costs RM72,800. Both prices include a RM3,000 special launch rebate, bringing the effective starting price down to RM56,800 for the Prime and RM69,800 for the Premium. The special launch pricing, excluding insurance, is valid until December 31, 2025.
In its press release on Thursday (Oct 30), the company said customers will also be able to enjoy a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km, whichever comes first, high-voltage battery and component warranty.
To celebrate the launch, PRO-NET introduced an exclusive launch rebate worth up to RM8,000 for early customers, which includes a RM2,000 rebate under the Power Xchange programme for deregistering non-roadworthy vehicles, a five-year unlimited internet data plan worth RM1,800, a five-year loan at 1.98% interest through Proton Commerce worth RM1,700, a 7kW home charger worth RM1,500, and an exclusive trade-in rebate of RM1,000.
The e.MAS 5 is available in five colour options. The Premium variant has two exclusive colours, Marble Cream and Quartz Rose, both paired with an Alabaster White interior. The remaining colours, Graphite Silver, Moonstone White, and Slate Grey, come with Flint Grey interiors and are available for both variants.
PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang said, “Through the Proton e.MAS brand, we are bringing clean technology within reach of every Malaysian, combining advanced innovation, trusted safety, and affordability to make EV ownership possible for everyone, not just the few.” /TISG
