Singapore — An Anderson Primary School student was caught on camera tumbling out of the car he was exiting after the driver accelerated too early.

Footage of the incident was uploaded on Facebook page ROADS.sg on Thursday (Jan 20), which included a reminder that drivers alighting passengers need to be extra careful in ensuring passengers get off the car safely before moving off.

The video began with the cam car approaching the drop-off point of the school and recording the Volkswagen Passat in front.

Just as the student opened the door and took the first step out of the car, the vehicle began moving.

A few seconds later, the kid gets up and converses with the driver still inside the vehicle. A nearby traffic marshal also rushed over to assist the student into the school.

“This driver should have also got out of the car to check on the kid before carrying on. Kudos to the traffic warden for coming to the kid’s aid,” ROADS.sg added.

Members from the online community shared varying opinions on the incident, with some noting drivers and parents are “under pressure” or hurrying at school drop off points.

“There’s always a lot of pressure to move the car quickly after dropping off at the school. Security will signal to move; cars behind will be waiting etc. But in between all this, drivers need to ensure everyone is safe,” said a netizen.

Others wondered why the vehicle driver didn’t come down to check on the child, noting it was fortunate that the kid’s leg didn’t get caught under the wheel as the car moved.

Netizens advised wittingly that a “drop off point” should not be taken literally, and hoped the kid was alright after the experience. /TISG
