KF Seetoh took to social media to call out the employer who blinded her maid, denied the latter medical assistance, and then punched the maid’s other eye.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday (Nov 1), Mr Seetoh wrote: “She punched her helpless helper blind in one eye, denied her medical assistance, made her work and later punched out the other..and still made her work when totally blind.. plus pressed a hot iron against her ear, now deformed. She sent the helper back home on her own with a $6k plus compensation..and that’s it”.
He added that “All the employer has is a 10 year jail term, a $4.6k fine. Evil clearly has no limits, they just grow older in jail”.
Ms Sugiyem Samad Radimah became blind in both eyes after her employer subjected her to repeated beatings. She also bore scars and had lost much weight after suffering over six months of abuse.
In April 2020, Ummi was displeased with the victim and slapped her face and ears repeatedly, causing her left ear to swell and harden.
Despite observing that Ms Sugiyem’s ear was swollen, Ummi did not provide any medical aid and did not take her to a doctor. During the same incident in April 2020, Ummi also directly punched both of the victim’s eyes repeatedly. When Ms Sugiyem attempted to shield her eyes from the blows, Ummi grabbed and pulled down one of her hands and continued to punch both the maid’s eyes. The helper lost the vision in her right eye after one of the accused’s punches.
Ummi then used her mobile phone and a clothes hanger to hit Ms Sugiyem’s head, shoulder and back. When the victim fell to the ground during the assault, Ummi pulled her ponytail and tried to make her stand. She then continued to hit the victim with a clothes hanger until it broke.
This incident led to Ms Sugiyem completely losing sight of her right eye. A few days later, she told Ummi that she had become blind in her right eye and wanted to see a doctor, the Straits Times reported.
Ms Sugiyem weighed 52.8kg on February 2021. Her weight was 76kg in July 2019 when she went through a pre-employment medical check-up mandated by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
In his post, Mr Seetoh continued: “The lawyers for the employers claimed helper was not totally blind as she could sense the employer and avoided her in the house. Have they ever known what’s it like to smell and sense fear when visually impaired? The judge even said the blindness was ‘irreversible'”.
“I hope some association is helping the Indonesian helper rip the employers apart for true compensation and permananent trauma. These people aren’t humans..they should be kept away from society forever”, he added. /TISG
