A theme park based on the Jumanji movies will soon be opened at the Chessington World of Adventures Resort. The theme park is located south of London.
Known as World of Jumanji, it costs S$28 million to develop and will include an overgrown Jumanji-esque jungle, a 55-foot Jaguar Shrine and a roller coaster track.
The theme park is a joint effort with Sony Entertainment.
The project will bring together entertainment and industry experts from around the world as they aim to create an experience that dives into the adventurous stories seen in the films.
The first look was released on August 15. It will start with a portal allowing theme park guests to enter the Jumanji jungle with the franchise’s logo bannered high above it.
More details on the adventure rides will be given going forward.
Divisional director of Chessington World of Adventures Resort said, “We know what it takes to create the ultimate adventure for our guests, spread over 128 acres the Resort already delivers surprises around every corner with more than 40 rides and attractions and features a zoo with more than 1,000 majestic animals and two themed hotels plus glamping!”
The Jumanji franchise comprises four films based on children’s books; Jumanji (1981) and its sequel Zathura (2002) written by Chris Van Allsburg. The first film was produced by TriStar Pictures, and subsequent films by Columbia Pictures, both subsidiaries of Sony Pictures.
The franchise follows the adventures of various people who find themselves imperilled when playing an enchanted game that comes with a variety of dangerous jungle elements that the players must survive as they play. Ultimately, the only way to end the disruptions is to finish the game while enduring its dangers.
Sony Pictures Entertainment Global Partnerships and Brand Management Head of Location EVP Jeffrey Godsick said, “After being entertained by the films for so many years, fans now have the chance to experience Jumanji in a whole new dimension, and we are thrilled to be going on this exciting adventure with the creative team at Chessington as Jumanji further expands with its very own themed land.”
