Jeff Ng back to busking outside The Cathay, fans to expect new originals

Singaporean busker Jeff Ng has announced he’s back to singing outside The Cathay; his first performance after a break was on Friday (Sept 30) from 7:30 pm to 10 pm.

Ng took to Instagram to say, “it’s been a while” since he last busked on the streets.

“I really missed those days singing with each and every one of you outside Cathay,” noted busker Jeff Ng.

Ng brought 2.5 hours of song dedications from the crowd and some of his new originals.

The last time Ng performed outside The Cathay was on June 18. He shared in another post that the show was “incredible with such a strong turnout” by his fans.

The local busker has been performing for years but rose to fame when TikTok videos of his performance went viral.

His latest performances drew massive crowds, with some saying he sounds similar to Singaporean Mandopop star JJ Lin.

However, Ng soon made headlines for other reasons when his ex-girlfriend hit him with allegations in July that he was abusive and controlling during their relationship.

The claims sparked comments from others who had worked with Ng, saying he was “hot-tempered.”

“Apparently, he still scolds patrons for ‘making noises’ during his sets,” wrote another netizen on Ng.

Ng has since made a public apology for his actions, noting he “was young and reckless in his 20s.

He then announced his music showcase at Golden Village VivoCity last month, with tickets selling out.

There is currently no update by Ng on his next performance./TISG
