Jay Chou’s doppelganger loves the Mandopop king’s music but he can’t sing

TAIWAN: So, get this—there’s this farmer in China who looks exactly like Jay Chou, the Mandopop singer, even though he can’t carry a tune, as reported by South China Morning Post! His name is Wei Wenkai, he’s 41, and works on a farm in Quanzhou, way down in Henan province. People online are freaking out about the resemblance, especially that little tooth gap he has, just like Jay used to before getting his teeth fixed.

Wei’s been posting videos of his life on the farm, you know, the simple stuff, and he often plays Jay Chou’s old songs in the background. It’s really nostalgic, and because of his farm life, people have started calling him “Cailun,” which is like “Vegetable Jay”—pretty cute, right?

Became a fan

Apparently, a teacher told him back in high school that he looked like Jay. He said, “I didn’t really follow celebrities back then, but I started listening to his music, and I became a fan.” He’d write down the lyrics and sing along to cassette tapes, even though he admits he’s no singer.

He’s super down-to-earth about the whole thing. He says he just wanted to share his farm life and never meant to look like he was copying Jay. “I’m kind of shy,” he said, “and I was worried all this attention would mess with my daily routine.”

Likes to visit temples

When he’s not working in the fields, he likes to visit temples. He’s settled in Quanzhou, which is actually Jay Chou’s ancestral home, and he calls it his ‘second hometown.’ He plans on staying there.

He’s excited that Jay Chou is performing nearby in Xiamen, but sadly, he can’t afford the tickets. Still, he’s grateful for all the support from Jay’s fans and wants to keep showing people what life on a farm is like—the happy, hard work kind of life.

It’s kind of cool how he’s staying true to himself, just like that pancake vendor, Bai Xianying, who also looks like Jay. People seem to connect with that kind of genuine, humble vibe.
