Jay Chou helped Jordan Chan revive his music career

Taiwan — While it’s easier to attract attention through the various streaming platforms available online today, back then, you have to hope you will get noticed, and a company will pick you up. Jordan Chan is all too familiar with that experience.

Since ranking first on the variety show Call Me By Fire, Chan has been experiencing a string of successes. Unfortunately, his music career did not quite take off, at least until Taiwanese singer Jay Chou stepped in, reported Hype.my.

Thirty years ago, Chan made his debut not with acting or singing but by dancing. He enrolled in the TVB Dancers’ Training Class in 1985 which was his entry into the industry.

Nevertheless, somewhere along the way, Chan became known for his acting rather than his other talents. The star also tried his best to excel in other areas, such as music. He created a group with Jason Chu and Michael Tse called “Wind, Fire, Sea” but it was short-lived.

After the group disbanded, Chan went solo but made less music. He then believed that he was not a professional musician. Chan thought that his development in the music industry was limited by several factors. He came close to quitting the music scene completely.

Fortunately, things changed thanks to Jay Chou. The Taiwanese singer-rapper composed a song for Chan in 2003, titled “Face the World”. The Cantonese-Pop song became an instant hit.

The song won him an award during the Taiwanese Music Awards Ceremony. It also gave Chan a break in his music career. From then on, Chan jumpstarted his career again and decided not to leave the music world. Chan thanked Chou repeatedly in public.

After all, without him, it is uncertain if Chan would have stayed in the music industry. Additionally, Chou has composed several other songs for Chan since then, such as “Hug (抱一抱)”, “Er Leng Zhi (二愣子)” and  “I love people (我爱旳人)”.

Their collaboration has brought much joy to many but most of all to Chan himself. We look forward to hearing more from him now that “Call Me By Fire” is over!
