A viral video by American reality show Inside Edition has raised fears for frequent travellers: Even at luxury hotels, not all bed linens are changed after guests have checked out.
Investigative reporters checked into a particular room at 9 different hotels and sprayed washable fluorescent paint onto the bed sheets using a stencil which read “I slept here”.
After they checked out, another reporter then checked into the same room the following day using a different name.
The New-York based video – which included luxury hotels such as the Intercontinental’s Candlewood & Suites and Marriott’s Residence Inn showed that the bed linens were the same even as the room was passed onto the next guest.
When reporters called the manager in, some were seen denying the claims until evidence was presented. Out of the 9 hotels covered, 3 did not change the sheets.
Later, Intercontinental said in a statement that they “take great pride in setting stringent quality standards, which we take very seriously”.
